In year 6, our children have the opportunity to take part in a ‘Bikeability’ programme. This is the Government approved National Standard for Cycle Training, which sets out the training and skills essential for making cycling trips on today’s roads. The programme is carried out by qualified instructors from Outspoken.

The Bikeability programme consists of 8hrs of training. Two hours are playground based where the instructors can assess the child’s cycling skills. Six hours are set aside for road training on Meldreth quiet roads but with real traffic conditions.

A roadworthy bicycle is one which has:

  • Fully functioning front and rear brakes
  • Tyres in good condition with good tread
  • A secure saddle in good condition
  • Unbroken pedals
  • Secure fixtures and fittings
