Meldreth Preschool – Our Ethos
We support children to be the best they can be, recognising that every child is unique. We encourage children to be independent active learners, be curious, develop self-awareness, show kindness and respect to themselves and others. We feel passionate about providing high-quality interactions and forming good relationships in a safe, nurturing environment.
How will we achieve this?
We use stimulating, open-ended activities alongside loose parts which encourages our children to use sustained shared thinking with their peers and practitioners and persist at activities when facing difficulties thus developing their resilience and problem-solving skills. Our outdoor area is just one of the areas that is a wonderful example of a space that offers these challenges and limitless possibilities. By following our children’s interests we ensure the activities have meaning and the children show high levels of engagement.
We pride ourselves on having just the right balance of child initiated, adult and child led activities alongside constantly considering the unique child and their characteristics. We value each of the seven areas of development with equal weighting ensuring children have a rounded well-balanced start in life.
The areas of development covered within the Early Years Foundation stage are;
- Communication and language
- Maths
- Physical development
- Expressive arts and design
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Understanding the world
- Literacy
