Manager's Blog 1st March

Welcome back from half term and I hope you all had a restful week. Our first week back has been great and all the children have settled back so well. We started our new learning topic of 'Spring has sprung' and we had lots of fun activities to support the children's interests and learning.

Caterpillars have been busy exploring digger tuff trays with cereals, used spring themed stickers on the velcro board, spring themed play dough and matching animals into pairs. The Caterpillars have also spent plenty of time outside, played 'copy me' games, learned about parts of a flower and even had a birthday disco!

The Butterflies have learning all about plants and flowers this week and have made flower themed art work using forks and celery! We have also had spring themed play dough as well as using dough to practice counting, picking petals from a variety of flowers, collecting and catching bugs (not real!) and made daffodils to celebrate St. David's day. Some of our group activities have included practicing brushing teeth on laminates, balancing bean bags, exploring the different seasons and counting songs up to 10.

As the Butterflies are growing and developing, we are starting to add more group activities, challenges and learning opportunities. This half term we have introduced baking club which will see all children during the next few weeks taking turns in baking something to take home. We have also now introduced Show and Tell sessions which will be added to tapestry each week and are organised into key groups. Other initiatives we are introducing alongside our helper of the day are our health and safety mascots and tidy troopers. Our health and safety mascots will be responsible for checking the garden spaces before we go outside and will then be the first group outside for play. Tidy troopers are those children who show great helping when we tidy up our toys and resources and look after their belongings, they will then be the first group outside or to go for a different activity. We are providing these initiatives to give the children challenge and to support their growing independence and sense of responsibility in their environment, as well as starting their school readiness journey.
